The
Borders Underwater Search Team (BU/WST) is an amateur organisation
set up in 1997 to compliment the work being done by the Border Search
and Rescue Unit (BSARU), by providing water searching facilities for
the unit. The Team is made up of fully paid up members of Scotsac
who are prepared to give up their time to help BSARU. As well as being
able to search underwater the team provide access to remote areas
such as islands and steep riverbanks.
The Team is also available
to help any member of the public, as well as helping any public
authority (eg Lothian & Borders Police, The Lifeboats), where
it provides what assistance it can.
The Borders Underwater Search Team
also provides a service as members of the British Divers Marine
Life Rescue. This involves attending sick or injured marine mammals
usually stranded on the coastline anywhere in Southern Scotland,
administering "first aid" and working to re-float or transport to
a local marine life centre for treatment.
